Best Music of 2015

Xoli M

She is undoubtedly best known for her vocals on the smash hit Rainbow by BlackMotion. This year Xoli decided to work even more harder in the studio and released a few hot singles. She worked with the guys from Steve Group on the club banger Higher & Higher. Then the smooth track ‘My Better Half’ & ‘Walk in My Way’.  However though it is her recent single release called ‘1000 Hearts’ that has people going crazy. Her music this year has cemented Xoli M as one of the in demand house vocalists of the game & in 2016, we cant wait to hear more songs from her.

Kid X & Moozlie

Cashtime Life records has to be one of the hardest working and consistent record labels in the hiphop game.,  This year alone the label dropped hit after hit & in the forefront was new kids on the block, Kidx & Moozlie –(better known as Skhanda Queen).  The two also released a killer collaboration track called ‘Se7en’ which gave the world a slight taste of Moozlie’s rhyming skills. Then KidX released his album entitled ¾ Pace with the latest hot single ‘iMadlana Yok’gcina’ heating up the airwaves. Moozlie on her own also made an impression on the hiphop scene which gave her some serious street cred. She collaborated with DJ Speedsta on the track “Don’t Panic” & did a track with Da Les on his latest album called ‘NorthGod’. 2016 will definitely be a year to see what more tracks these two will cook up.

The award winning soulful singer took a break after her platinum selling & chart topping album ‘Ina Ente’ drove her fans crazy. During her hiatus she became a mother again, experienced a bad relationship with the father of her baby to experiencing the ultimate pain of losing her beloved sister the late singer Lulu Dikana last year in December. Throughout all of that Zonke managed to pull herself through & went back to a place where she could freely express herself and that was in studio to write, produce & record her followUp album entitled ‘ Work of Heart’.  She has outdone herself once again. Fans are enjoying the beautiful melodic sounds of songs such as ‘Dear Child’,  ‘Reach It’ & ‘ Free State of Mind.’ This year also sees Zonke pushing her music through her own record label & really enjoying the fruits of her creativity & hardwork.

Mmatema Moremi

Without a doubt she captured the hearts of thousands of South Africans whenever she belted out songs on stage. Mmatema was in the top 2 finale on SA’s Idols reality show. Due to her popularity many thought she would win the competition but she didn’t. She lost out to fellow contestant Karabo. However that has not put her down, Mmatema is more determined than ever to continue pushing her singing career. She has let slip that she will be pursuing a career in Gospel music. For 2016 we simply cant wait to hear more sounds from Mmatema in whatever musical genre.

Apart from having a never ending industry “beef” with Cassper Nyovest, his private life was also put under the spotlight for not so many good reasons this year highlighting the fact that he may have cheated on his girlfriend & mother of his child DJ Zinhle with fellow industry mate Bonang Matheba. However despite all the drama AKA has remained focused and level headed in taking his music career to the top. This year of 2015 he released chart topping songs ‘Composure’ & ‘The Baddest’.. He was also nominated for international music awards & also won a SAMA this year for Best Male. To top it off he has done a killer remix of ‘The Baddest’ where he has featured an all female rappers lineup including the likes of Gigi Lemayne, Rouge & many more.  Theres no doubt that whatever controversy comes his way AKA feeds off it and makes it work for him through his music. 2016 will be an interesting year for him we can just imagine.

Prince Kaybee.

After winning SABC 1’s season 2 of music competition 1 & 2’s. Prince Kaybee was already a firm favourite with many music lovers. He wasted no time in diving straight into studio and cooking up his hot debut album. The smash hit singles ‘Better Days’ & ‘Wajelwa’ are heating up dance floors and radio airwaves. He also took the time to work with music greats such as Donald on the club banger  ‘ What goes Around’ & working with Dr Malinga on the track ‘Give Me’.. Kaybee’s deejaying and producing skills have impressed many industry heavyweights which puts him in a very good standing position to do more music projects for next year. One thing is for sure 2016 will be a continuation of success for the musical genius.

The young hiphop trio from Durban burst onto the music scene early this year when they released the song ‘Nomusa’ that everybody went crazy over, from there they added more fire to them by their dance moves on stage. Their sound is unashamedly QomuTrap music which is a mixture of hiphop & hardcore house music from the townships. Weekend after weekend WTF was booked at all major gigs around the country.. They caught the eye of Oskido & impressed him so much that he helped the youngsters record their debut album. Fast forward months later & WTF have released their debut album ‘Finding Nomusa’.  The boys were nominated in the recent SA HipHop Awards further proving just how much of an impact these guys are making in the industry. 2016 will for sure be another great year for them. We cant wait
